History

The Ropley Courtyard shop and Post Office has been in existence since 2006 and has gone from strength to strength. Currently assisted by four paid, part time, members of staff, it is primarily a volunteer led operation and provides an essential local convenience store as well as being the “hub” of the village.

The shop came into being thanks to the efforts of a few conscientious residents who were keen to help people living in the village, particularly the elderly who may no longer be driving. Funds were raised, loans were made, and grants obtained, to set up the shop in some little used agricultural buildings. It was originally set up as the Ropley Village Shop and Post Office Association but was later converted to the more suitable company structure of a Community Interest Company in 2009.

In 2018 we were able to take over the previous garage space that had divided up the shop from the storage area. This allowed a further programme of refurbishment and expansion that enabled the “Tack Room” to be established. This had been the tack room of the previous agricultural building and stables. This room now provides a place for people to enjoy a cup of freshly made tea or coffee, as well as meeting friends or having a relaxing, quiet moment. In the summer the Courtyard space is well provided with tables and chairs for people to sit outside.
